London Architectural Stonemasonry restored Tennyson House’s stone facade in Fitzrovia, London (W1W 5PA).
This project included Portland stone replacements, indents, specialist cleaning, stone repairs, and re-pointing, along with crucial lead work to protect the structure. Our approach revitalised the building’s appearance, ensuring its longevity.
The challenge
The Langham estate asked us to produce a costed photo survey of Tennyson House, Weymouth street, Fitzrovia, London. Postcode: W1W 5PA.
They wanted to identify any aspects of the property’s external facade that needed to be cleaned, repaired and, if needs be, replaced.

Our solution
After the facade inspection, we discussed the findings with the client and agreed on a facade restoration programme.
The project consisted of some Portland stone replacements, stone indents along with specialist cleaning, stone repairs, re-pointing and essential lead work to projecting string courses and copings to prevent degradation.
Our works began with templating, cutting out of damaged stones, indents, faulty pointing and then specialist stone cleaning.
We used the templates back at our workshop when cutting replacement stones for the facade.
After we cleaned the facade, we installed the new carved stones. The smaller idents were then fitted, with the details being carved in on site.
The new lead work could then be installed that was needed to protect the projecting string courses. This was followed by the Portland stone repairs and finally stone pointing.
